An Original Christmas Gift Idea from Sketchpad on Tour

AD – Gifted: One of the items in this post was paid for by me and one was kindly gifted by the artist.

Hello Everyone,

On this first day of advent I’m telling you how starting this blog has lead me to discover a great Instagram account, Sketchpad on tour. Her work would make a great original gift or home decor piece.

As you may have read here before, I started this blog and my Instagram account to share my passion for the Christmas season.

In true Wizzard style “I wish it could be Christmas everyday” and I knew I couldn’t be the only one who felt this way. So I set out in the middle of summer to see if I could share my Christmas enthusiasm with any like minded people.

Guess what…..it turns out I’m not alone, there are a great many people who feel exactly the same.

Aside from the lovely dedicated Christmas accounts I have connected with on our community. What has given me a huge amount of joy is connecting with accounts of creators, designers and makers.

As a crafter whose makes never quite stack up to the vision in my head. I’m always in awe of those who can create beautiful things, from bakers to makers to artists. Other the past months I have connected with so many talented individuals.

Sketchpad on Tour

That brings me to the subject of this post. The lovely Victoria from @sketchpad_on_tour.

Victoria has a simple theme for her Instagram account:

My life in drawings

We have been following each other for several months and I love her work. The beautiful drawings from her travels and warm colour palette really appeal to me.

Of course, the way I know whether I’m really going to love an account is by checking out their Christmassy themed work. So the first thing I do when I find a new creator is go back and check out their Christmas items. Because we were in the middle of summer, this meant going back to last Christmas.

Christmas 2018

When I saw the following, I was hooked:

Yes this is Victoria’s wonderful drawing of the house from the film The Holiday.

The following sketch sealed the deal!

This was posted in January, with a nod to the post Christmas blues. Clearly we were kindred spirits.

Christmas 2019

In early November Victoria tagged me in on one of her latest Christmassy works.

I was really excited to purchase one of her works for my decorations and that is exactly what I did.

The process was really simple. I direct messaged Sketchpad on tour telling Victoria that I was interested, I chose what size I wanted (A4) and she got straight back to me with the price for a print, £30.

Once I had confirmed I was happy with the price, she arranged to have the print of the drawing made and sent to me.

And that was that…or so I thought.

Exciting News

As an extra treat, Victoria very kindly offered to gift me a commission. An original sketch of any place of my choice.

After a very brief discussion with my husband we knew exactly the place we wanted drawn, Littlecote House in Hungerford, the venue of our wedding nearly 12 years ago:

Littlecote HouseAs you can see from the ice on the pond in this photo, our wedding was in the Winter. So I asked Victoria if it was possible to give the drawing a festive feel and below is what she came up with:

I was bowled over by what Victoria came up with. I have now received both drawings and I’m thrilled with them. Each Christmas these will now be proudly displayed as part of our Christmas decorations.

I can’t thank her enough, so I have written this post, as everyone should find her wonderful account.
